JANESVILLE-The Janesville Velo Club, along with the city of Janesville and Michael's Cycles, will sponsor the first of six local bike rides as part of Bike to Work Week.

The opening ride will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at the downtown parking plaza. The ride will circle the downtown area before taking the newly paved bike lane down South River Street to the bike trail.

This ride will kick off a series of rides offered this year by the Janesville Velo Club based on the "Go Slow" model of bike riding. The rides travel at a pace of no more than 8 mph, cover about 8 to 12 miles, and are designed for families, new riders, old riders and anyone who prefers a slow-paced and easy bike ride.

This first ride is sponsored by the city of Janesville and will have repair specialists from Michael's Cycles available for last-minute adjustments.
