Bernita May (Stluka) Mathews, age 89, resident of Cedar Crest, Janesville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 13, 2014, after a decade of living with dementia. Bernita was born in Eastman, WI, as the second of six children born to George and Bessie (Stagman) Stluka. Bernita graduated from Seneca High School and UW-Whitewater. Bernita was married to Warren William Mathews in 1950. Together they raised three boys: Dennis (Donna), David, and Mark (Annette). Bernita served for many years in the Janesville area as a teacher and principal. She was a long time Sunday School teacher, Awana leader, and board member at Fulton Church, Edgerton. “Bun”, as she was called by many, was known as a sweet, patient, and caring mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, and friend. Faith and love guided her life, and is a legacy she leaves us.

Bernita was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, in 2001. She is survived by her sons and their spouses; and siblings: Jeanette (Les) Mabie, Betty Ronde, Michael Stluka, Gloria (Bob) Van Elverdinghe, and Wayne (Jean) Stluka. Bernita also leaves nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many relatives.

Funeral services will be held on Good Friday, April 18th at 4 p.m., preceded by visitation with family and friends at 3 p.m., at FULTON CHURCH, Edgerton, WI. Pastor Larry MacKenzie officiating.
