Loons sweep doubleheader in Beloit
The Great Lakes Loons opened a Midwest League series in Beloit with a doubleheader sweep Tuesday.
The teams were forced to make up Monday’s postponed game and played two seven-inning contests.
In the first game, the Loons drilled three home runs to run away with the 11-4 victory.
Justin Chigbogu, Paul Hoenecke and Alex Santana each hit solo shots for Great Lakes, while Kyle Farmer was 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI.
Snappers leadoff hitter Boog Powell went 3-for-4 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base in the loss.
In the second game, Loons starter Zachary Bird threw all seven innings, allowing just three hits in an 8-2 victory.
Ryan Mathews supplied all the offense for the Snappers with a two-run, seventh-inning home run.
Beloit and Great Lakes play again at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
