John “Red” E. Kirkham, Jr., 75, of Elkhorn, died peacefully early Friday morning, Feb. 7, 2014. He was born Aug. 19, 1938, in Elkhorn, WI, the son of the late John E. and Genevieve (Cook) Kirkham. Red graduated from Elkhorn High School and served in the US Navy from 1956 until 1960. He was united in marriage to the former Janet Mettling in 1960. John worked for over 15 years as the produce manager at Sentry Food Store in Elkhorn, WI. He, then, worked for Mann Brothers of Elkhorn, WI, and for over 10 years worked as patrolman for the Walworth County Highway Department, retiring in 1997. Red was an avid sportsman who enjoying hunting and fishing. He taught hunters safety classes for many years. Through the years he donated many gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.

John is survived by his two daughters, Jill (Chad) Passler of Burlington, WI, and Sarah (Tim Baker) Kirkham of Elkhorn, WI; two grandchildren, Jordan and Spencer Welch; one sister, Joanna (Dick) Fuller of Elkhorn, WI; and one brother, Darwin Kirkham of Rhinelander, WI.

Prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at HAASE-LOCKWOOD & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 730 N. Wisconsin St., Elkhorn, WI.
