TOWN OF UNION--Poor road conditions contributed to a two-car accident that left one person dead and two others injured.

At 2:49 p.m. Thursday a car driven by Elizabeth B. Proctor, 19, of Evansville was traveling north on Highway 14 in the town of Union when she lost control of her Ford Escort, slid sideways across the centerline and collided with a Chevrolet Impala driven by Raymond Reinart, 72, of Granton, according to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff's Office.

Proctor was pronounced dead at the scene by Rock County acting coroner Lou Smit, the news release said.

Reinart and a passenger in his car, Margo P. Young, 66, also of Granton, were transported to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville. They were both treated and released.

Highway 14 was closed from Highway 59 to Highway 92  for nearly four hours while the Rock County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Team investigated.

City of Evansville and Village of Brooklyn Fire and EMS responded to the scene along with an emergency trauma doctor, the news release said.

The roads were covered with blowing and drifting snow at the time of the accident, and that was a contributing factor in the crash, the news release said.
