Violet Elizabeth Hodge, 87, died Jan. 9, 2014, at Covenant Hospice in Pensacola, FL, following a Dec. 17th surgery. She was born in Whitewater, WI, on Feb. 1, 1926, to Linnie and Raymond Smith. Following graduation from Whitewater High School and 2 years of college, she married Russell Clarence Hodge on Nov. 28, 1946. After various employments, she returned to school and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She spent the majority of her teaching life at East-side/Washington School in Whitewater. She was a member of Eastern Star and the Legion Auxillary. She enjoyed spending time with family, collecting antiques, playing cards, and having good political discussions. Her retirement has been spent equally in Whitewater, and on the beach in Gulf Shores, AL.

Violet is survived by her husband, Russell; her daughter and son-in- law, Sandy and Alan Thies of Delavan; her grandsons, Drew Thies of Nashville, TN, and Darren Thies of Bucharest, Romania; her sister, Mary Lou Meyer of Darien, WI; brother, Harold (Mary) Smith of Wisconsin Dells, WI; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Judy Kulinski and Shirley Krahn. As per request, there will not be any formal funeral services.
