On behalf of The Ruby Project board members and Out in October committee members, we wish to express a thank you to all businesses, Rock County community members and attendees of the Out in October community picnic.

Over 250 people attended the Out In October picnic at the Rock County Courthouse Amphitheater and took a stand against bullying, along with promoting acceptance for everyone.

The event raised over $5,000 to continue the organization’s efforts of supporting Rock County residents and promoting acceptance of all without regard to sexual orientation. We wish to acknowledge our key event sponsors: Beloit Health System, St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital, BMO Harris Banks, My Office-JVL Business Center, Gordie Boucher Ford, Konica Minolta Printing and Lamar Outdoor Advertising. Along with these key sponsors, over 75 other businesses played roles. A special thank you to the Janesville Police Department, Janesville Fire Department and the city of Janesville staff.

About nine out of 10 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) teens have reported being bullied at school within the past year because of their sexual orientation. This is why The Ruby Project exists, to help our community and make sure every child/adult feels safe and secure regardless of sexual orientation. Greatness comes in all shapes and sizes, and The Ruby Project believes every child/adult should have an opportunity to flourish in a safe environment at school, at home and within our community.

Your generous contributions are helping to make that possible.
