JANESVILLE—A Janesville company that installs and services telephone systems for business has expanded its reach.

Phones Plus recently bought Select Telecom and Technologies of Loves Park, Ill.

The acquisition will nearly double the customer base of Phones Plus, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, said company President Bill Sodemann.

Select Telecom, formerly Hughes Business Technologies, has been in business for more than 30 years and offers many of the same product lines as Phones Plus.

“It was a natural fit for us,” Sodemann said. “Select Telecom wanted to insure that its customers were well taken care of by a company that had a proven track record in the industry.”

While Phones Plus will remain headquartered in Janesville, it will now be able to dispatch technicians directly from the Rockford, Ill., area.

In Janesville, Phones Plus has seven employees. With the acquisition, it adds two technicians in the Rockford area plus an office person, who will help during the transition.

Technically known as Phones Plus of Janesville, the company has changed its name to Phones Plus.Biz, which emphasizes the company's expanded reach and its business-to-business focus, Sodemann said.
