The National Weather Service in Sullivan extended a freezing rain advisory for Rock County and surrounding areas for 6 p.m. Thursday through the evening Friday.

The Rock County Sheriff's Office has issued a news releases asking residents to be aware of the potentially dangerous road conditions, and the Wisconsin State Patrol has advised that traffic on Interstate 90/39 has been slowed or stopped in spots from Janesville south to the state line because of slippery conditions and vehicle slide offs.

Freezing rain continued to fall off and on throughout Friday evening, and Rock County emergency officials reported a number of minor vehicle accidents as road conditions remain poor.

Weather forecasts indicate the potential development of a winter snowstorm this weekend, creating continued hazardous travel conditions. Forecasters are calling for between 6 and 10 inches of snow, with potential snowfall accumulation of an inch or more an hour starting late Saturday and continuing throughout the day Sunday.

Road conditions can be monitored at www.511wi.gov or by dialing 511 on your telephone.
