JANESVILLE—A 10-year-old Janesville girl was severely injured Saturday night after being mauled by her family’s American bulldog that weighed 90 pounds.

She suffered a large gash by her shoulder, under her arm and lost of piece of one of her ears, said Lt. Terry Sheridan of the Janesville Police Department.

The girl’s mother and aunt, who tried to intervene during the 7 p.m. Saturday attack at their home in the 500 block of S. Jackson St., also were hurt but only suffered minor injuries, he said.

The girl initially was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville, but later transferred to a different medical facility and presumably for more specialized care, Sheridan said.

The dog is being held at the Dane County Humane Society, Madison.
