JANESVILLE--A man hit by a semitrailer truck on Interstate 90/39 Monday morning suffered life-threatening injuries, according to a news release from the state Department of Transportation.

The release identifies the man as Dennis R. Bell, 46, of Janesville.

Bell was struck by the truck near County M on Interstate 90/39. He  was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville. A spokeswoman at Mercy confirmed Bell was being treated there but said she could not release information about his condition.

The Milton Fire Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol were first responders for the accident that was reported at 9:29 a.m. in the northbound lanes.

The press release says Bell's vehicle crashed into the guardrail and left the road. Bell then got out of his vehicle and walked onto the highway, where he was hit.

The truck driver, Mark E. Nesson, 35, of Sun Prairie, was not injured.
