Sunday night standoff ends peacefully
JANESVILLE—A Janesville man is in custody after a four-hour standoff Sunday night.
Daniel J. Eldridge, 39, of 2 S. Martin Road, was arrested on charges of domestic disorderly conduct while armed and failure to comply with an officer's attempt to take a person into custody, according to a Janesville Police Department news release.
Police were sent at 8:28 p.m. Sunday to Eldridge's home after receiving a report of a suicidal subject armed with a handgun. Other occupants of the home had already fled the scene when police arrived, the release stated.
Upon arrival, police made phone contact with Eldridge, who refused to come out. The Janesville SWAT team and hostage negotiators were called to assist. Two hours later, Eldridge still refused to come out, so pepper canisters were thrown into the house.
At 12:30 a.m. Monday, Eldridge surrendered and was taken into custody without suffering any injuries, according to the release.
Police reported confiscating a .40-caliber Glock handgun.
