Michael A. Sterk, age 73, of Janesville, died on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center. He was born in Janesville, on Dec. 10, 1939, the son of Joseph and Virginia (Donahue) Sterk. He served in the U.S. Army in the early 1960’s, and had been employed by General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1990. Mike was a member of the UAW Local 95, and a lifetime member of the National Geographic. He really enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, and attending wild game feeds. He spent a lot of time in his life roaming the woods and fields of Wisconsin, and fishing the Rock River in Janesville. Mike led a very busy retirement, and could always be counted on to help his friends and family with any and all projects around their homes. He touched the lives of friends as far away as California.

Mike is survived by his five siblings: Joseph Sterk, Jr., of Janesville, John (Debbie) Sterk of Lakewood, CA, Virginia (Don) Leitz of Janesville, Marge Frederick of Janesville, and Richard Sterk of Janesville; nieces and nephews: Jodi (Jim) Multon, Lynn (Tom) Olson, Michelle Sterk, Sarah (David) Schuck, Mark (Jennifer) Leitz, Matt (Michelle) Sterk, Dan (Kris) Sterk, Greg Sterk, Chris (John) Lunstrum and Jeff Schiefelbein; numerous great nieces; great nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Thomas; brother, David; and sister, Mary Schiefelbein.

Mike was a treasured brother, cousin, and uncle to his family. He had a generous nature, and was a great friend to so many people that he knew, and their families as well. He was known to family and many friends alike as “Uncle Mike” and he will truly be missed.
