This week, the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin joins with more than 750 community foundations nationally to celebrate Community Foundation Week. This is a time to recognize the impact of local philanthropy and express appreciation to all who transform our communities with gifts of time, talent and treasure.

In 2012-2013, grants and scholarships from Community Foundation funds in Rock and Walworth counties totaled nearly $1.3 million. These dollars are a significant economic investment in our region. Beyond the numbers are the many stories of community projects moving forward and life doors opening. Numerous area nonprofit organizations benefited from our grants this year, including Agrace HospiceCare Inc., the city of Edgerton, Creekside Place in Evansville, the Gathering Place in Milton, the Rock County Historical Society, the Elkhorn Food Pantry and many others. Our scholarship programs made college more affordable for 131 area students, a record number.

Donations to funds in Rock and Walworth counties totaled more than $980,000 in 2012-2013. We also were fortunate to have more than 70 community members serve as volunteer advisory board members, raising money and reviewing grant applications. Many more volunteers assisted with special events, including fundraising efforts and recognition ceremonies. To all who contributed dollars, sponsorships, endorsements, time, or moral support to the funds and causes of the Community Foundation’s Rock/Walworth region, we extend a heartfelt thank you. Thank you for supporting the needs and people of your community. We hope it feels good to give.
