JANESVILLE--The UW-Rock County women’s basketball team used pressure defense to improve to 3-0, while the Rattler men’s squad overwhelmed visiting UW-Fond du Lac in Wisconsin Collegiate Conference action Wednesday night.

The women’s squad created 30 turnovers to down the visiting Sabers, 59-48, and remain undefeated on the season.

All 17 members of the Rattler men’s squad saw at least 10 minutes of action in an 83-38 victory over the five-man Fond du Lac squad.

“Our defense was outstanding,” Coach Scott Lee said of the women’s victory. “We’ve caused 96 turnovers in our three games. We’re taking advantage of our opponents’ weakness at guard. That is where our strength is.”

Janesville Craig graduate Emily O’Donnell scored 18 points, which included three 3-point shots. Janesville Parker graduate Julia Dement added 10 points and six rebounds.

The men’s squad took advantage of the short-handed Fond du Lac squad that was missing five players to improve to 2-1.

Thirteen UW-Rock County players scored, led by Safari Hunt’s 14 and Elkhorn High graduate Matt Smith’s 12.

Hunt was 4-of-6 from 3-point range.

Elkhorn High graduate Kyle Hoskins had 10 rebounds.

Both UW-Rock County teams will be challenged tonight with games at Illinois Valley Community College, a Division II junior college. The Rattler men’s squads have lost by a combined total of 125 points the last two games against IVCC. The Rattler women’s team only lost by six points last season at IVCC.
