WHITEWATER--Not even a rare Friday night game could derail UW-Whitewater’s football team.

The Warhawks amassed 481 yards of offense en route to a 42-0 WIAC win over UW-Eau Claire at Perkins Stadium.

Whitewater (6-0, 3-0) jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead, and with the defense limiting Eau Claire (0-6, 0-3) to 136 yards of total offense for the game, cleared the bench in the second half.

“We’re getting better each week as a football team, and that’s what I’m most excited about,” Whitewater coach Lance Leipold said. “We still have some things to correct but right now, we’re good on both sides of the ball.”

No one is hotter right now that Whitewater’s Matt Behrendt. The quarterback, who was coming off a school-record six touchdown passes a week ago, had four more against Eau Claire, including three to Jake Kumerow.

Behrendt was 30-of-39 passing for 224 yards.

“Matt’s playing with a lot of confidence right now, and I can't say enough about the efficiency in which he is running our offense,” Leipold said. “And that’s what we’re going to need going forward because the schedule gets tougher.”

Jordan Ratliffe and Booker Ross combined to rush for 254 yards for Whitewater, while Behrendt found seven different receivers on the night.

Whitewater plays at UW-Oshkosh next Saturday.
