Erik Baskin ruined the Janesville Jets’ season-opener on Wednesday night.

Baskin, who plays for the Aberdeen Wings, scored a pair of first-period goals and the Wings held off the Jets 2-1 at the NAHL Showcase tournament.

Baskin put the Wings on the board less than seven minutes into the game, then doubled his team’s lead at the first period’s midway point.

Janesville’s Nick Petrella scored off a feed from John Severson midway through the third period, but the Jets were kept off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

Brock Kautz, who was announced as returning to the Jets earlier this week, started between the pipes and stopped 32 of 34 shots.

The Jets continue play in the Showcase at 8 p.m. tonight against Kenai River.
