Girls tennis: Craig sweeps Beloit; Parker sneaks by East

Janesville Craig High swept past visiting Beloit Memorial, 7-0, in a Big Eight Conference girls tennis match Thursday.

“We did what we had to do,” Craig coach Bill Peyer said. “Sometimes you play down, and we did that in some matches, but we finished strong. It was a good match for us.”

The Cougars, 2-3 in the conference, play at Madison La Follette on Tuesday.


Singles—Kaylee Rossing (JC) def. Meredith Larson, 6-1, 6-0; Clara Langbecker (JC) def. Victoria Ramirez, 6-0, 6-1; Kristin Whitcomb (JC) def. Karen Lopez, 6-1, 6-0; Amanda Wilkie (JC) def. Kelsey Hanthorn, 6-1, 6-2.

Doubles—Sierra Reese-Sara Runde (JC) def. April Wescott-Mikayla Wood, 6-4, 6-0; Abby Hughes-Carly McGrath (JC) def. Sophia Story-Brianna Jones, 6-1, 6-1; Taylor Olsen-Coourtney Teck (JC) def. Cassandra Thompson-Amber Wojciechski, 6-0, 6-0.

Junior varsity—Craig won, 7-0.

• Parker 4, East 3—The Vikings won their second match of the week when they edged past host Madison East on Thursday.

Meghann Hoag improved her record at No. 2 singles to 11-0 with another victory, and the Parker No. 3 doubles team of Anastasia Schoon and Carly Stowers provided the match-winning point with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 victory.

Becky Harmata and Becky Sodemann provided wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively.

Parker, 3-2 in the Big Eight, host Madison West on Tuesday.
