TOWN OF TURTLE—A 29-year-old Beloit man is in custody at the Rock County Jail after a three-hour standoff Sunday afternoon with the Rock County SWAT Team in the town of Turtle.

Kevin R. Thiele was arrested on charges of domestic disorderly conduct while armed, recklessly endangering safety and failure to comply with officer's attempt to take person into custody, according to a Rock County Sheriff's Office news release.

Deputies responded to an abandoned 911 call at 2232 E. West Hart Road at 1:47 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they learned Thiele was under the influence of alcohol and had brandished a firearm during a dispute with one of his parents. Several weapons were recovered from the house, Detective Warren Yoerger said.

Both of Thiele's children—a boy, 10,  and a girl, 5—also were in the home, according to the release.

When Thiele would not communicate with responding deputies, they requested the assistance of the Beloit and town of Beloit police departments. After repeated attempts to contact Thiele failed, the Rock County SWAT team and hostage negotiator were called and town of Turtle firefighters and city of Beloit paramedics were placed on standby, according to the release.

Hostage negotiators worked to talk Thiele into coming out of his house for more than three hours and by 5:13 p.m. were successful in convincing him to release his children and to peacefully surrender to the SWAT team. No injuries were incurred, according to the release.
