The Beloit Snappers’ season came to an end Monday night.

Quad Cities hammered 17 hits, including three home runs and six others for extra bases, to beat Beloit 9-5 at Pohlman Field.

The River Bandits won the Midwest League Western Division Finals, 2-1.

Quad Cities used five runs over the first three innings to jump out to a big lead. It ran Beloit starter Derek De Young from the game after just two-plus innings, giving up six hits, a walk and five earned runs.

River Bandits shortstop Carlos Correa had a triple and a home run as they built their lead to 9-2 through six innings. Starting pitcher Daniel Minor threw six of those, striking out six and allowing just two runs to earn the win.

The Snappers tried to rally, beginning in the eighth inning. They got three straight singles to open the frame, then scored on a walk, a sacrifice fly and a single by Brett Vertigan.

But the come-from-behind effort stalled there for the Western Division’s first-half champions.

Quad Cities moves on to face South Bend in the league’s championship series.
