Lightning forced the postponement of Friday night's nonconference football game between Delavan-Darien and Walworth Big Foot.

The Chiefs led 21-10 in the second quarter when play was stopped.

When play resumed Saturday, the winning ways continued for Big Foot.

The six-time defending Rock Valley South Conference champions got 204 yards rushing and three touchdowns from Tim Long in a 35-30 win.

Big Foot (2-0) rushed for 344 yards, but had to survive another sterling effort by Delavan-Darien quarterback Jesse Collins. The junior threw for 122 yards and two touchdowns and added 78 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

The Chiefs led 21-16 at half and pushed the margin to 12 on Long's 2-yard TD run with 5:36 left in the third.

Delavan-Darien (1-1) got within five on a Collins 38-yard scoring strike to Gabe Gonzalez, but Long's 36-yard scamper with 4:46 left sealed the win.

Both teams open conference play Friday. Big Foot puts its 43-game conference winning streak on the line at Evansville, while Delavan-Darien hosts Wilmot in a Southern Lakes opener.
