Your Views: Where does Baldwin stand on labeling of altered foods?
In May, Sen. Tammy Baldwin voted against a proposed farm bill amendment, introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., that would have upheld states' rights to pass GMO labeling laws.
As a citizen of Wisconsin, I believe I should also have the right to know if my food contains genetically modified organisms (GMOs). And I'm not alone. A recent New York Times poll showed 93 percent of Americans, including Wisconsin residents, support GMO labeling.
Sen. Baldwin owes her constituents an explanation. When campaigning, Baldwin promised again and again to stand up to corporate interests and make sure the people of Wisconsin's voices are heard. Surely her vote did not reflect the wishes of the majority of her constituents.
Will Baldwin side with her constituents and support their right to at least have GMO-labeling legislation considered? Or will Baldwin side with Monsanto and other agribusiness corporations in working behind the scenes with lobbyists to deny Wisconsin the right to provide its citizens with the fundamental right to know what's in our food?
The people of Wisconsin want to know which side you are on, Sen. Baldwin!
