Snappers salvage split with Timber Rattlers
Matt Olson’s 19th home run of the year staked the Beloit Snappers to a six-run lead and they salvaged a series split with Wisconsin on Tuesday night.
Olson’s three-run home run in the third inning proved to be the difference in a 6-4 victory at Pohlman Field.
Beloit got off to a quick start by scoring three times in the first inning as John Wooten blasted a two-run double to center field.
Olson’s homer followed back-to-back singles by Renato Nunez and John Wooten with one out in the third.
It was enough to hold on, though the Rattlers scored once in the fifth and seventh and twice in the eighth. Chris Lamb slammed the door with 1 2/3 scoress innings for his second save.
The victory went to Trevor Bayless, who allowed one run on three hits in 2 1/3 innings of relief of starter Dylan Covey.
The Snappers open a three-game set at Kane County at 6:30 p.m. tonight before returning for a seven-game homestand beginning Saturday.
