TOWN OF BELOIT—A Janesville man was arrested and hospitalized after a fight early Monday morning  in the parking lot of The Club Bar, 1975 Porter Ave., Town of Beloit Police Chief Steve Kopp said.

Officers were called at 12:03 a.m. after a bar patron, Brent R. Lowe, 32, of 1724 Edison Ave., Janesville, exited the bar with an alcoholic drink. A bar employee came out to tell Lowe he couldn't leave with the drink, a verbal altercation ensued and Lowe punched the bar employee in the face, Kopp said.

“There was a fight between those two, and the patron wound up with serious injuries,” he said.

Lowe ran from the scene before officers arrived, but he later was found in a backyard unconscious and barely breathing, Kopp said. Lowe was revived and taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

Later, Lowe became combative and argumentative with hospital staff, and he was transferred to the Rock County Jail on a misdemeanor battery charge and a warrant from Monroe County, Kopp said.

Kopp said the investigation is continuing because “at this point it appears the actions of the bar employee went beyond that of self defense, so there may be further charges.”
