Big crowd, nice weather made for perfect night
A recent Gazette article regarding this year’s Rock County 4-H Fair compared Tuesday’s free Florida Georgia Line concert and Thursday’s Hunter Hays concert, which required reserved tickets.
The article stated there were “too many people” and implied the record crowds were a menace. However, I was fortunate enough to be in the crowd on Tuesday and saw thousands of buoyant fans singing aloud and a group of talented performers who felt a true appreciation for the praise they were getting from the crowd.
And, although the line to enter the fair was an hour long, I noticed that people were respectful of the wait and there were no skirmishes to advance in the line. The show started and ended promptly, as well. To me, the concert and the atmosphere could not have been more perfect. It was a beautiful summer’s night, the band was into it, and so were the thousands that showed up to see them perform.
In a recent post on Twitter, Florida Georgia Line raved about the event saying, “Didn’t want tonight to ever end in WI!” I sincerely hope fair organizers keep up the tradition of a free show despite the crowds it brings. This is true America: a county fair crawling with people nibbling on funnel cakes and deep-fried Oreos on a beautiful night while jamming with one of the nation’ s most popular bands.
I hope for many years to come that “That’s how we do it ‘round here.’”
