TOWN OF ALBION--A Fort Atkinson man was arrested after he pistol whipped his girlfriend, pointed the gun at her head and pushed her out of his vehicle on Interstate 90/39 Tuesday, according to a release from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

Cameron S. Bates, 23, Fort Atkinson, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct while armed, recklessly endangering safety and battery Tuesday after he left an 18-year-old woman on the side of I-90/3 just north of Edgerton, according to the release.

The sheriff’s office reports Bates got angry with the woman, pulled his vehicle over and grabbed a 9 mm handgun from under the seat. He hit the woman in the head with the barrel of the gun several times, then pointed the gun at the woman’s head, threatened her, and pushed her out of the car.

The sheriff’s office reports Bates left the woman along the side of the Interstate and drove back to his home in Fort Atkinson, where he began to destroy the woman’s belongings.

The woman walked to a nearby truck stop north of Edgerton and called police, the sheriff’s office reported. The incident happened just after 1:30 p.m., according to reports.

Police later recovered the handgun from Bates’ vehicle, and he was taken into custody at Fort Atkinson Police Department Tuesday night, where he also was arrested for destroying the woman’s property, police said. Bates was being held at Dane County Jail.
