Wenzel "Sonny" Schneider, Janesville, WI
November 23, 1942 - December 2, 2017
Wenzel F. “Sonny” Schneider, Jr., age 75, of Center Township, died on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at home. He was born in Janesville on Nov. 23, 1942, the son of Wenzel F. and Cecilia (Wellnitz) Schneider, Sr. He graduated from Janesville High School and served in the U.S. Army. Wenzel married Carol Coen on October 20, 1973, in Janesville. He retired from General Motors, and was a member of the UAW Local 95. Sonny loved the outdoors, especially his family cabin in northern Wisconsin. He spent each summer there, enjoying the solitude and quiet of the north woods. He taught his children to enjoy the beauty of land, nature, and wild places. He loved fishing, hunting, and searching each summer for the most remote campsite in the Chequamegon National Forest. Although he enjoyed solitude, Sonny always had a special twinkle in his eye when seeing family and friends, and greatly enjoyed the antics of holiday gatherings. Always rationally minded, Sonny was a very practical gift giver; one might receive zip ties, a handsaw, drill bits, or gas stabilizer for Christmas. His quiet side was rivaled by his competitive side; it was best not to test his euchre skills. But beneath his flannel, beard, and grizzled demeanor, was a soft interior that loved animals, and a man who would go out of his way to help others without making a show. He would show his love through his work, such as car repairs, plumbing, woodworking, or replacing the occasional broken window. You name it, he could fix it and he loved taking care of his family. His love of family, joy in their pursuits, and his care for others will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Schneider; three children: Heather Disch of Janesville, Beth (Bill Wodicka) Schneider of Wauwatosa and Kevin (Lea) Schneider of Portland, OR; two grandchildren, Tyson and Peyton Disch; eight siblings: Elizabeth (Dick) Hage, Dorothy (Daniel) Fellows, John Schneider, Donald Schneider, Mary (Michael) Conway, Frank (Barbara) Schneider, Carol Schneider and Charles (Cathy) Schneider; and many other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian; brother, William; and son-in-law, Cheyenne.
