Slow start dooms Parker in Big Eight boys hoops opener
Janesville Parker’s boys basketball team sputtered out of the gate to start the Big Eight Conference season Thursday.
The Vikings scored just 11 points in the first half of a 70-45 road loss to Verona.
“It was a tough adjustment going from playing in Rockford to the way this crew officiated,” Parker coach Keith Miller said. “We came from two physical games where they let you play, and we play well that way. We did not respond well, and we have to get better at that.
“This will be our worst game of the season. We will get better every game after this.”
Verona made 38 trips to the free-throw line, making 26. Parker was 9 of 10 from the stripe.
Four Wildcats scored in double figures. Kavion Ellison had 13 to pace the Vikings, who fell to 0-3 overall.
Parker plays at Madison La Follette on Saturday night.
