JANESVILLE--The Janesville Parker High boys swim team opened the Big Eight Conference season Thursday, and while it ended with a 126-44 loss to Middleton, head coach Eric Rhodes is optimistic for what lies ahead.

Cameron Odegaard finished second in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.41) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:07). Odegaard was also part of the 400-yard freestyle relay that took second.

“I thought we swam well. We were swimming against a very good Middleton team, and based on our times I’m very happy for our first meet of the season,” Rhodes said.

“We wanted to find the right swimmers for our relays and I think we figured that out. We will keep practicing and getting faster,” he said.

Parker swims Saturday at the Janesville Craig Invitational.
