Janesville Craig rallied against Big Eight Conference girls basketball favorite Sun Prairie but lost 65-47 on Friday night.

The Cougars trailed 41-25 at halftime before using a 10-0 run to get within eight points. Craig then failed on consecutive possessions to get closer, and the Cardinals were able to pull away.

“We had them on their heels,” said Craig coach Kerry Storbakken said. “These kids play hard and have a lot of energy. I'm very proud of their effort.”

Emily Pierson, Brooke Parkhurst and Rileigh Elgas each had 11 points for the Cougars, who fell to 1-2 in the conference.

Carly Coulthart hurt the Cougars with 14 points. She came into the game averaging five points. Jayda Jansen led Sun Prairie with 19 points.

The Cougars play at Middleton on Thursday and then host Janesville Parker next Saturday night.
