MILTON—No one was injured in an early Monday morning fire that caused heavy damage to a Milton duplex, authorities said.

The Milton Fire Department was dispatched at 3:35 a.m. Monday to 1017 Sue Lane. The single-story duplex had visible flames and smoke when crews arrived, according to a fire department news release.

Residents of both units escaped without injury before firefighters arrived, according to the release.

The cause remains under investigation. The unit where the fire occurred sustained "severe and extensive" damage, while the adjacent unit experienced moderate smoke damage, according to the release.

Property damage is estimated at $110,000, plus an additional $15,000 worth of lost possessions, the release states.

The Milton Fire Department received assistance from the Janesville, Edgerton, Clinton and town of Beloit fire departments. It also got help from the Rock County Sheriff's Office, Milton Police Department and Alliant Energy.
