Lake Geneva man suspected of planting explosives
TOWN OF BLOOMFIELD—Authorities have arrested a Lake Geneva man who is suspected of placing apparent explosives around a property in rural Lake Geneva on Tuesday evening.
According to a news release from the Town of Bloomfield Police Department:
Authorities arrested Robert Leathers, 46, of Lake Geneva on suspicion of recklessly endangering safety, possession of explosives and disorderly conduct after he was seen driving a vehicle recklessly in a gravel parking lot at 5:32 p.m. Tuesday at 2023 N. County H in the town of Bloomfield.
Police said they learned Leathers had placed or thrown undisclosed “suspicious devices” around the property. The Kenosha County Sheriff's Office bomb squad collected and removed the devices from the scene, according to the release.
Roads surrounding the area were closed for several hours Tuesday as a “precaution,” according to the release.
Leathers at first tried to elude police, but he was taken into custody without incident. He was being held at the Walworth County Jail, pending charges being forwarded to the Walworth County District Attorney's Office, according to the release.
The Walworth County Sheriff's Office and several other agencies assisted town of Bloomfield police in the incident.
