MADISON

Janesville Parker's girls basketball team has a chance to be pretty good, if it doesn't have to rely solely on Julia Hartwig.

Tuesday night, the Vikings showed flashes of just how good.

Hartwig had 21 points and 14 rebounds, while her teammates combined for seven three-pointers in a 68-51 Big Eight win over Madison La Follette.

Parker (1-1, 1-1) went on a 19-0 run to end the first half and start the second in burying the Lancers.

“It's a much simpler game when the ball goes in the basket, “ Parker coach Jennah Burkholder said. “We had trouble with that against Verona.

“I think what I'm most pleased with is that defensively, we were strong, and I also thought we got nice contributions from our bench.”

Parker started strong. The Vikings jumped out to an early 6-1 lead and never trailed.

Thanks to 16 first-half points from Hartwig, Parker built a double-digit lead and eventually led 38-28 at the break.

Jena Forrestal came off the bench to score 10 points in the first half for Parker, including two threes.

Had it not been for seven first-half turnovers, the Vikes might've been up more. The two teams combined for seven threes, with Kaytlin Eder draining three for the Lancers.

Parker used a 13-0 to start the second half to put La Follette away.

Forrestal finished with 18 points for Parker, while Tina Shelton added 14 points, including three threes.

Parker plays Mikwaukee Pius on Saturday as part of the Brookfield holiday tournament.
