Janesville man arrested after multiple reports of thefts from vehicles

JANESVILLE—A Janesville man was arrested early Tuesday morning after residents reported thefts from unlocked vehicles on Janesville’s southwest side, according to a Janesville Police Department news release.

Officers responded at 2:12 a.m. to a report of two men looking into vehicles in the area of Joliet Street and South River Road.

Officers located Daniel E. Nightingale, 37, walking in the area. He was in possession of property that was later identified by several of the victims, according to the release.

A second man was involved in the thefts but was not located.

After checking the area, officers located 19 unlocked vehicles that the men had rummaged through, the release stated.

Nightingale was arrested on charges of theft, party to the crime of theft, and criminal trespass. He was held at the Janesville Police Department and was later released, according to the release.
