A Janesville man who was reported missing and later found safe Thursday was located thanks to electronic message boards posted by the Department of Transportation, according to a news release.

The family of Jon K. Schleisner, 81, reported him missing late Thursday afternoon after he went out for breakfast and did not return. Police issued a Silver Alert around 5 p.m.

Around 9 p.m., a DeForest resident saw Schleisner’s silver 2016 Subaru Outback, which matched the vehicle description the resident had seen on the message boards. The vehicle had also been reported for wrong-way driving, according to the release.

Law enforcement found Schleisner safe in DeForest. It was the second time roadway message boards had helped safely locate a missing elderly person since the Wisconsin Silver Alert program began three years ago, according to the release.
