LAKE GENEVA—A Lake Geneva army veteran announced Tuesday he is challenging Rep. Paul Ryan in the 1st Congressional District election Republican primary.

Nick Polce, of 672 W. Main St., No. 491, is running against Ryan and Ryan's other Republican challenger, Paul Nehlen.

“We cannot continue to elect individuals who believe it is their job to rule rather than serve,” Polce said in a Tuesday news release.

Polce said in the release Ryan has changed since he was first elected and now “makes decisions based off what is best for his political career instead of what is best for Americans and the 1st District.”

Polce was on active duty for 11 years and served in the U.S. Army's Green Berets, the release states. He said Washington, D.C., needs the kind of leadership he learned in his service.

Polce is also part owner, managing director and chief of income-generating activity for a security consulting firm, according to his website. He is also a real estate investor.

Polce lists his opinions and positions on his website, including that he is pro-life, against high levels of government spending and thinks Social Security and Medicare are failing.

He said it is time for change in the nation's capital.

“You can delegate responsibility, but you cannot delegate accountability,” Polce said in the release. “It is time to hold career politicians accountable.”
