TOWN OF WHITEWATER—A Janesville man was the person killed in a two-vehicle crash in the town of Whitewater on Sunday, according to a Walworth County Sheriff's Office news release.

Brandon Lee Garecht, 28, Janesville, died at the scene after his car collided with a pickup truck driven by John Wallace, 69, of Richmond, Illinois. Wallace was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

At about 3:59 p.m. Sunday, Garecht was driving east on Highway 12 just east of County P when he tried to pass several vehicles in a no-passing zone. His car collided head-on with Wallace's oncoming pickup, according to the release.

Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles, and both vehicles had heavy damage.

Walworth County deputies and Whitewater Fire and Rescue units responded. The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office's crash investigation team, Whitewater Fire and Rescue, Whitewater police and the Walworth County Medical Examiner's Department.
