Jets defeat Magicians to avenge Friday's loss
Special to The Gazette
JANESVILLE--The Janesville Jets put plenty of pressure on Minnesota Magicians goalie Isaiah Saville on Friday but scored just once in a series opening loss.
When Saturday’s game came around, the Jets were on a mission to defeat Saville and the visiting Magicians. They got the job done with a 2-1 victory.
After a back and forth opening frame, defenseman Reid Hill put the Jets ahead 1-0 with just over a minute left in the first.
Hill took a feed from forward Tanner Polglaze at 18:16 and fired the puck past Saville to give the Jets the lead.
The goal was Hill’s first goal of the season and first as a Jet. Verona native Sam Renlund earned his first NAHL assist on the play.
The Magicians stormed back to tie the game at one in the second as Minnesota forward Jarrett Lee extended his goal streak to three games.
The Jets refused to be defeated as defenseman John Pesek scored on the powerplay just a minute later at 13:07 in the middle frame. Captain Kip Hoffman and defenseman Philip Bjorkman earned assists on the goal.
The only other action for both teams the rest of the way was for the two goalies as the Jets held on to win 2-1.
Garrett Nieto made 19 saves for his eighth win of the year. Saville stopped 33 of 35 shots for Minnesota.
