JANESVILLE—Drivers who want to travel south on Interstate 90/39 from Janesville on Friday should avoid the southbound entrance ramp at Milton Avenue and be alert for new lane shifts.

The state Department of Transportation announced Thursday the ramp would be closed 2 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

Alternate routes include the southbound ramp at nearby Highway 14, by traveling east on 14 from the Milton Avenue/Highway 14 intersection, according to a news release.

The closure will allow pavement repairs on the southbound Interstate lanes between the Racine Street/Highway 14 interchange and the Milton Avenue/Highway 26 interchange in Janesville.

Department spokesman Steven Theisen said the repairs need to be made before the winter freeze/thaw cycle makes the road worse.

Lane shifts are planned for southbound lanes just north of the Highway 26 interchange.

The department asks drivers to be alert for the lane shifts and for workers and equipment in the area, and to allow extra time to reach their destinations.

These operations and ramp closure is weather dependent and subject to change.
