He was born September 27, 1953, the oldest son of James & Eleanor (Johnson) McCarthy. He was a graduate of Craig High School, Class of 1972. He had a love of chemistry and science, and continued his education at UW-Madison and at Pacific Western University while working for Pharmaceutical Companies in Wisconsin and Utah. While living in Wisconsin, he obtained his pilot’s license and owned his own plane. He also had a love for Corvettes and was a member of the Corvette Club in Utah. His other interest was teaching Concealed Carry classes, as he was a member of the NRA. His job took him to Utah in 2008, where he met and married his wife, Kelly Hatfield, in 2013.

Jim is survived by his wife, Kelly; his brothers and sisters: Nancy (Dan) Williamson, Alan McCarthy, Martha McCarthy Schmidt, and Brian (Sharon) McCarthy; his 13 nieces and nephews; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and by many friends. He also is survived by two sisters, Brenda and Sherry.

Jim was adopted, and had found his birth mother, Helen, who preceded him in death. Besides his parents and birth mother, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip McCarthy; and his sister, Mary Ellen McCarthy.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held by his family in Wisconsin, and a service will also be held out in Sandy, Utah.

Jim’s family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Jim’s wife, Kelly, for all the love and care she gave to their brother!
