JANESVILLEPolice have arrested a Janesville man in connection with a theft Friday from a local tavern.

Joseph Kjornes, 32, of 1902 E. Memorial Drive was arrested at 4:24 p.m. Sunday on charge of theft of between $5,000 and $10,000, according to a news release from the Janesville Police Department.

The charges are related to an incident at 11:30 p.m. Friday at TAASBAG, 2339 Milton Ave. Police say Kjornes walked behind the bar and took a money bag while the bartender was busy with other customers.

The bag contained $8,369, according to Janesville police reports. Kjornes also reportedly ordered a pizza and didn't pay for it.

Tips from the public led to Kjornes' arrest, the news release said.

The case remains under investigation.

Kjornes is being held at the Rock County Jail.
