Man pleads not guilty in Delavan motel stabbing case
ELKHORN—A man has pleaded not guilty to a charge he stabbed a man he knows in the Delavan Super 8 Motel, court records show.
Eduardo Godinez Diaz, 29, on Oct. 16 pleaded not guilty to a Walworth County charge of first-degree recklessly endangering safety in connection with the Sept. 2 stabbing of Juan Lopez-Perez.
Police said they were responding to what they thought was a man with possible appendicitis at the Super 8. When they arrived, they found Lopez-Perez on his back with a woman pressing a towel against his side, according to the criminal complaint.
Lopez-Perez told Delavan police he was talking on the phone with his wife when he suddenly felt a knife in his side, according to the complaint.
Lopez-Perez said he was not sure why Godinez Diaz stabbed him. The two have known each other for 10 years, he said.
A test showed Godinez Diaz's blood-alcohol concentration was 0.202, the complaint states.
Godinez Diaz is next due in court at 1:15 p.m. Nov. 10 for a status conference.
