ELKHORNThe trial for a Lake Geneva man accused of possessing child pornography was delayed because prosecutors filed new charges alleging he sexually exploited a child he knew in 2014.

Prosecutors say in June through September of 2014, Carlin C. Pillman, 33, of N1445 120 South, received and requested inappropriate sexual pictures from a teenage girl who was younger than 18 at the time, according to a criminal complaint filed last week in Walworth County Court.

The woman, who is now an adult, recently spoke with investigators about the pictures she sent as a teenager to Pillman, according to the complaint.

Pillman faces new charges of sexual exploitation of a child and child enticement. Convictions on those two charges carry a maximum combined prison sentence of 65 years.

Pillman already faced three counts of child-porn possession after state Division of Criminal Investigation agents said in May 2014 that Pillman had downloaded child porn videos, according to the complaint from that case.

Investigators executed a search warrant at Pillman's home Sept. 18, 2014, and reported finding multiple child porn files on his laptop, the complaint states. Pillman admitted to previously downloading and viewing child porn.

Pillman told investigators he watched porn or child porn about once a week, the complaint states. He said he viewed a child porn video about two weeks before agents executed their warrant.

Pillman pleaded not guilty to the child-porn charges Nov. 13, 2014, court records show.

On Sept. 29, 2017, Pillman appeared in court for a final pretrial hearing, where he confirmed he was rejecting an offer from the prosecution, according to court records. His trial was set to begin Oct. 2.

On the same day as the final pretrial, a state agent spoke with the woman who identified herself in the photos found on Pillman's cellphone, according to the new complaint.

The woman was clothed in some photos, naked in others. Some pictures were taken at Pillman's home, others in the woman's home. Ten photos were listed in the complaint.

Pillman's ex-wife told investigators she found text messages with the woman that were sexual in nature on Pillman's phone, the complaint states.

The woman told investigators Pillman asked for some of the photos, according to the complaint. She said he sent her a picture of his penis and replied to her pictures, saying he enjoyed them and often saying he wanted more.

Pillman often said he was unhappy with his marriage, the woman told investigators.

Pillman brought the woman lunch a few times while she was in high school, according to the complaint.

Pillman told her he wanted to have sex and “do stuff,” referencing other sexual acts, the complaint states. The woman said Pillman's messages made her uncomfortable and she did not want to have sex with him.

One message from Pillman said he wanted to take the woman to his bedroom, tie her down and have sex with her, the complaint states.

The woman said Pillman once grabbed her around the waist and pulled her onto his lap before she stood up immediately, according to the complaint.

She said she did not remember Pillman ever touching any sexual areas.

The woman told investigators she was young and dumb when she sent the pictures to Pillman three years ago and now feels horrible, the complaint states.

Pillman is next due in court at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, for a preliminary hearing.
