TOWN OF PORTER--A woman died after large hay bales fell on her Monday at a rural Evansville address, according to the Rock County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Ryan Ooms told The Gazette that Julie M. Hazeltine, 59, was pronounced dead in the barn where two large, rectangular bales fell of a stack of bales.

An investigation continues into what caused two bales to fall off the stack, Ooms said.

Emergency workers were called to 10047 W. Wheeler Road at 3:36 p.m. Monday, according to sheriff's office records.

Ooms said it took several people, including an Evansville police officer and an off-duty emergency medical technician, to move a heavy bale off Hazeltine.

Hazeltine graduated from Parkview High School in 1976, worked at General Motors and as a construction worker and loved horses, according to her obituary, which appeared in Thursday's Gazette.
