MILTON--One man was hospitalized and one was in custody after an assault with a weapon in Milton on Wednesday night, Milton Police Chief Scott Marquardt said.

He said an injured man and the man in custody knew each other, but he said the incident wasn’t one of domestic violence. He said he wasn’t sure if the two men were Milton residents.

Marquardt stressed when speaking to reporters at the scene at about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday that there was no further threat to anyone in the community.

Marquardt would not say whether the assault was a shooting. He did not know how serious the injury was.

The incident was serious enough that Rock County deputies were called to help process evidence at the house. Marquardt said evidence gathering would likely continue past midnight.

The call of a violent incident in the 300 block of Elm Street came at about 8:20 p.m.

Marquardt did not know if the assault happened inside or outside the house.

Asked if police had found a weapon, Marquardt said: “That’s something we’re still working on.”
