Kathleen McNally Penfold died Monday, August 7, 2017, at home in Jefferson City, MO. Kathy was born May 4, 1945, in Milwaukee, WI, a daughter of James McNally and Dolores Fischer McNally. She was raised in Milton and Janesville. Kathy graduated from Janesville Senior High School in 1963. She attended the College of Saint Teresa in Winona, MN, graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree in 1967, subsequently becoming a Registered Nurse. Kathy attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and received a Master’s of Science in Pediatric Nursing in 1970. On December 20, 1969, In Madison, WI, Kathy married James F. Penfold, who survives at the home. Kathy was a pediatric and public health nurse, and Lamaze Prepared Childbirth instructor. During her early career, she worked in newborn nurseries and with children with developmental and learning disabilities. In 1987, she moved to the public health setting, first at a county level, and then with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, from which she retired in 2010. Kathy was a certified Lamaze Childbirth Educator for over 40 years. She helped found and organize the Childbirth Education Association of the Fox Valley in Wisconsin. Kathy and her husband Jim were active in the Marriage Encounter organization. They became involved in 1974 in Wisconsin, and continued with the Jefferson City Marriage Encounter Organization, serving in various Board positions and as Presenting Team Members until April, 2017. Kathy was a member of the Missouri River Regional Library Board of Directors, serving in this role since 2012. One of Kathy’s proudest accomplishments happened between 2014-2016, when she attended and graduated from the Living School, which is a part of the Center for Action and Contemplation, in Albuquerque, NM. Kathy enjoyed biking, walking, reading, and sewing. She kept her family history alive, and will be remembered for her cooking talent, reading to grandchildren, and care of her plants.

In addition to her husband, Kathy is survived by three children: Jennifer Boyd (Tim) of Jefferson City, MO, Bridget Bahneman (Chad) of Stillwater, MN, and Rebecca Penfold-Murray (Michael) of Saint Paul, MN. She cherished her dozen grandchildren: Hannah, Nathaniel, and Zachary Boyd; Annie, Liam, Thomas, Iris, and Ruby Bahneman; Teagan Fee, James, Peter, and Margaret Murray. She is also survived by her siblings, Colleen McNally of Bend, OR, and Patrick McNally of Hopkins, MN; and by her aunt, Arleen Fischer Schomann, of Milwaukee. In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Annie, who died at age 7.

A Mass of Christian Resurrection was celebrated Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, in Janesville, WI, on Saturday, October 28, 2017.
