The Delavan-Darien boys soccer team continues to make itself at home in Lake Geneva.

Jordy Perez's goal got the top-seeded Comets rolling in a 5-1 win over Saint Anthony on Saturday, clinching the school's fourth straight WIAA Division 3 regional championship.

Delavan-Darien (23-1-2) hosted both its regional games on Lake Geneva Badger High's artificial-turf field and will face Shorewood there Thursday at 6 p.m. in a sectional semifinal.

The finely-manicured turf suits the nimble Comets just fine.

“We're a better team with the ball on the ground,” Delavan-Darien coach Mike Marse said. “We've always played well on the turf.”

Perez volleyed home a pass from Zeus Huerta, Jason Cano scored twice in the first half and Osvaldo Torres bagged his second goal of the season to give the Comets a 4-0 lead at halftime.

Huerta added a second-half goal, his 50th of the season, for the final scoreline.

“They celebrated it,” Marse of his players. “I told them, 'We weren't done.'”

The reigning Division 3 state champions will have to get through Shorewood, and then either Pius XI Catholic or Waukesha Catholic Memorial, to return to the state tournament.

No goal times were provided for Saturday's regional final.
