The Wednesday story, “Fuzzy math: Council studying animal control budget,” mentions raising the fee on dog and cat licenses as a possible solution to offset animal control costs. There was no mention of raising the fees for dogs or cats running at large. Or, if pets are found not to be licensed, raising those fines as well.

I have always had Dobermans as my dogs, and, due to the breed, I have always made sure my dogs are licensed. How many small-dog owners don’t get licenses and how many cats are not licensed? How many cat owners let their cats run loose at times? If the city wants to raise fees to offset the cost, raise them for those that are not obeying, not for those that obey.
