ELKHORNPolice are warning Elkhorn residents to be wary of anyone coming to their doors and threatening to cut off electricity if they don’t pay their bills.

Police found out about the apparent scam Friday, but it happened the previous Friday, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

“We were advised by City Hall that a foreman may knock on your door, letting you know he is disconnecting the power, and there are times that payment may be collected. They do not, however, go door to door asking for payments,” according to the statement.

Legitimate contacts would be by a city employee with identification in a city truck, according to the statement.

Residents were advised to call City Hall to confirm the legitimacy of such contacts, and if anything looks odd, they should call police 262-723-2210.
