A second-half comeback wasn’t in the cards in Janesville Craig’s Big Eight Conference boys soccer league finale Thursday night.

A goal by Owen Aldrich nine minutes into the second half got the Cougars back within a goal, but Verona pulled away for a 3-1 home conference victory.

Craig finished the regular season 11-7-3 overall and 2-6-1 in the Big Eight.

“I was very pleased with the way the boys fought,” Craig coach Garrett McCabe said. “Our season finished with some very tough competition, and although we finished with a loss, we are in a great place for starting regionals.”

Bennet Luttinen got the Wildcats on the scoreboard in the 28th minute, and his tally in the 65th gave them insurance and the 3-1 lead.
